We first met some forty-four years ago, and although we lived around 12,000 miles apart, he became an important part of my life as our friendship strengthened and we came to know and respect each others the years went by.Letters, emails, phone calls and visits were constant as Terry, Jean and Neil became my English Family.
The Australian flag always flew to welcome me, my sons and my friends whenever we visited ,Thus "Springfields" became my home when in England. We spent many happy hours exploring his garden, feeding the fish in his pond, and he was quite amused at my fascination with the train which traversed the magnificent viaduct near his home.
When Terry and Jean visited me many years ago, they endeared themselves to my extended family as we toured around the countryside for a few weeks. Terry enjoyed this immensely, and loved the wide open spaces, the long straight roads, and the strange place names of some of our towns and cities, such as Dunny Doo and Wagga Wagga. This was a memorable trip for us all as we explored so many out of the way places.
Fortunately, I visited "Springfields" in August last year, and even though he was ill, the flag flew high as usual to welcome me.I shall always treasure the times we spent together, and remember his cheeky grin and his genuine hugs.
What a privilege to have known this wonderful man who will be greatly missed by all.
Vale Terry
